No Words

SG-1 was cancelled today.  [livejournal.com profile] theemdash broke the news to me on a 10 minute break at Borders, and, I swear to God, after she told me I swear I felt like I had just been told somebody died.  Gateworld gave the sad confimation.  Sci-Fi soon sent out a press release on their Sci-Fi Wire.  But as the fans are, they are not going to take this treatment lying down, nor will Robert C. Cooper

Fans have already started organizing.

There is a Bring Back SG-1 petition.  As of this posting, it has 2,429 signatures.  This isn't enough, of course.  There needs to be more.

A group on GateWorld has started the Tissue Box Campaign

More things are in the works.  People you might be interested in following are [livejournal.com profile] theemdash and [livejournal.com profile] lyndasty.

The Solutions Blog has all the addresses one needs for writing complaints and letters of support.

The whys of this...well, I was speculating before (and others have speculated as well), but I don't really care about the why.  The why doesn't matter.  What matters is the what: What are we, as fans, going to do about this.

Gateworld has reported the ratings for "200" and "The Real World": 1.9 and 1.8 respectfully. That's one heck of a boost.

Well, at least they had a good, long run. Maybe they can take some of that money and put it into bringing back Farscape, right?

[identity profile] fangirljen.livejournal.com 2006-08-22 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Is that the common consensus of the Scapers? *sighs* I don't think Ben and Claudia would want to stick around Sci-Fi to get burned a third time. Who knows, though. I've loved them on SG-1. There's much that can be do on that show...as well as Farscape. God I hate Sci-Fi.

Consensus? I don't know, I don't know any others except my partner... If there's any series I'm really committed to, it's Firefly. Anyway, I didn't mean to belittle what you were feeling - it's just that very few shows ever get to run that long. Maybe it's for the best. It seems to me that really great series seem to reach their peak, then decline, and maybe it's better for them to end before they do. Look what happened to the X-Files. I really wanted to see the last 2 seasons made, but after they were, I wished they hadn't been. Even the Farscape mini-series was much inferior to the series. All the writers and actors from SG-1 will go on to create new work, probably creating something new and wonderful to for us all to get hooked on. And there's still plenty of open endings for fanfiction, books, etc., which could be better than if the series had continued on past its prime.

True, I agree that shows that are past their prime should leave, but Stargate: SG-1 isn't that. There were plots for next season, and episodes were still really good. The writing is still there, the acting is still there, everything is still there! Maybe this is better, though. If it gets moved to another network, maybe it can be SGC, and therefore be a new series, but with some of the favorite characters. I'm okay with the show changing, but I want to still be in this galaxy with these characters and settings.

This show is too good, and too profitable, and its fans are too numerous and too rabid to let it go down like this, not when things were really getting amazing.

...aren't they?

If this had happened two years ago, I would've resigned myself to it and said "Its time has come, let it go." But the last two seasons have been so amazing... this news breaks my heart, it infuriates me. Sci-Fi drops SG-1... and picks up ECW?!?!

The cast deserves better. The writers deserve better. The bloody crew deserves better.

If somebody picked it up as SGC, that might be the best thing for it. I'd get behind that. I'd switch premium channels to follow it. I screwed up by not helping Firefly out when it was around... and while SG-1 might not be Firefly-good, it's still one of the best shows on television right now (my second favorite after Atlantis actually) and I aim to give it all the support I can.

Your title said it all. No words can capture it all. Betrayal, resolve, depression, rage- and thousands more feelings. But as long as a thread of hope shines through all the bullshit, I'll keep fighting for this show.

I'm sorry Jen, I realized my reply must have been incredibly insensitive. I guess I've just become really cynical after losing Firefly and Farscape. I hope you guys are able to get SG-1 back. The only reason I'm not an SG-1 fan is that I haven't had Sci-Fi channel in about 3 years. And now I'm in Canada, where we have Space, which is lame. Good luck to you. I'll sign the petitoin.
