Los Angeles, June 24, 2008 — Screen Actors Guild national negotiating committee met with the employers at the AMPTP headquarters in Sherman Oaks today. We have concluded for the day and will resume at 10 a.m. On Wednesday.
We have no further comment.
This is good. They are talking.
I do wonder if SAG would do some kind of waver, like with the SAG awards. I mean if really wouldn't be fair to all those people who paid. BUT, its a long way from June 30th and perhaps it will all be a distant memory by that time.
The WGA strike was devastating for actors, just awful. Agents wouldn't even take meetings with people - not to mention all the non actors out of work.
I like to think SAG will do everything possible to avoid this, because of what happened, perhaps even working with out a contract - at least to see how AFTRA votes in July - which seems to be what SAG is waiting for.
And as much as I think its a terrible thing to do - meaning encouraging people to vote against the AFTRA deal. And I just read it and it is a terrible deal - in regarding "new media" - which as an actor is most important to me.
In the end, I like to think its a lot of talk to get leverage from the producers, because a strike, right now, would be awful. As Tom Hanks said, "You will be hijacking this town"
The rumor is a vote to strike will never pass, besides taking a while after the 30th to have all the members vote, unless they find a reason not to get a vote from members, which I hear could be possible also. I know, because of the WGA strike, as much as it pains me because consent of clips and no more non-union new media is important to me - I would have to vote no to a strike - and I think most people will too.
But I really am NOT in the loop at all. Just my feelings.
