Quick Post From LA (Comments Contain Spoilers)

In all seriousness, I didn't have much excitement for The Dark Knight. I loved Batman Begins, and I was more excited for this sequel a few years ago. However, I have to say this: any expectations I could have had, it absolutely blew them all away. Stephanie and I spent AN HOUR after the movie talking about the details and I know that there were many themes and examples that we didn't touch. Talk about a cerebral superhero movie. For the kind of movie that it is, it is in a class by itself. Just...shit man. I need to see it again.

Yes. Yes. I cannot stress this enough. I saw it tonight. Yes.

If you are reading this and have not seen it, do so. No, right now. Turn off your computer, grab your keys, and go see it. Now. Right now. Why are you still reading this when you could be seeing Batman?!

Seriously.

I love Iron Man, but it's for an entirely different reason than why I love The Dark Knight. Because in actuality (and I'm afraid people are going to be stupid and make this mistake) the two movies cannot be compared. They are both superhero movies, but Iron Man was a movie about a superhero, while The Dark Knight was a movie that had a superhero in it--and that might be stretching it. Batman is, like Gordon said, much more than a hero, super or otherwise.

Word to all of this. I was actually thinking afterwards about Iron Man vs. TDK, and how they were two such totally different experiences. TDK was freaking depressing, man. But I did love it immensely. I had some critiques of it here and there, but overall it was just beautiful and thought-provoking and really, really fantastic. Just... yeah. I desperately need to see this in IMAX now. :)

It is depressing. *nod* And there's no neat ending. No offering of a way to fix things. Mostly because things cannot be fixed.

This is morbid, very morbid, I must warn you, but the fact that Heath Ledger passed away is on the same level of random that drives the Joker. It is...doesn't make any sense. And to play that kind of character...very disturbing. :( I was wondering how people's psyches were affected in this, especially the actor who played Gordon's children. They're just young kids, forget about how they are actors. :(

Yeah, his death is random on that morbid, chaotic sort of level. :( Coming out of the theatre, I had to stop myself about thinking what it would be like to have Joker in the next movie, and then I got sad about Heath all over again. Sigh. :(

That question tends to ride in the back of my mind in any movie that has kids doing or being involved in dark situations, but I would guess that the on-set experience is different than the experience we see as viewers. I mean, the scene of the kids in TDK at the end (*spoilers* for the rest of the comment) ... Two-Face's stuff was all CGI, wasn't it? So I'm guessing the kids didn't have to see that.

Anyway, on a lighter note. :) Dark and depressing, but also hugely entertaining, I'd say. Couple of laugh-out-loud moments for me, even if morbid ones. Joker in the nurse's outfit was hilarious and terrible all at once, hee. :D

I can't decide what was my favorite moment - the nurse's outfit/bowlegged walk, or the oft-visually-quoted Joker hanging out of the cop car window with his face to the wind, like a happy dog on a road trip.

so good. one of the best films I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot.

Glad it resonated so much with you. I can't say I'm salivating for this movie, but fan reviews do make things so much more tempting...

You should. *nod* Give it a view. Of all of the comic movies this season, I'd say this is the one to see, even with how fantastic Ironman is. It's the message in this one.

I'd have to add - of all the MOVIES this season, this is the one to see.

Seriously. *nod* Even mainstream films aren't at chock full of layers as this one is.

It's been so great to finally watch a movie that not only meets your expectations, but also surpasses them.
