That Writing Season

Still feeling like I haven't accomplished much. Well, I did a lot of sleeping today. That should count for something--only I still feel so exhausted after I wake up. I blame it on staying up really late and the bloody heat. The heat's just evil. Too many days have been over 100.

One good thing I did do, just did in fact, was make a post about NaNoWriMo on my writing journal, [livejournal.com profile] writerfangirl. Anybody out there who's thinking about doing NaNoWriMo this year? I've done two years in a row now over on [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine's journal, [livejournal.com profile] nanonov. Great community over there. Rachel also gives writing advice (she's published...erm, I want to say at least twenty novels, a few short stories, articles, etc), offers prize drawings for the people who meet the weekly challenge, and has, in the past, offered a cool incentive for those who finish the 50,000 word requirement: a dedication in her book. :D I didn't make it in 2005, but I got listed in a book this year for 2006. In fact, there was a mess up and I got both my real name and my LJ name in there. *L* Sorry about that, Rachel. I also want to hold a comm, one that is just for my friends and me, though. That would be [livejournal.com profile] pesky_muse.

I'm feeling good about this. It's early Sept. and I'm making these plans for Nov. It's better to start early, though. Trust me on this. Helps soo much!

I did NaNo last year, though I just wrote fanfic. But writing a 50k word fanfic (it was a little over that, actually) in about 27 days was insane. I'm trying for original work this year, and I'm already thinking about it. But it involves a little bit more prep-work, dealing with original characters.

Nothing wrong with writing fanfic for NaNo. :D That's very cool.

Totally. In the two previous years, I knew what I was writing because they were stories I kept on putting off. But this year...*shrugs* no clue. I do have another story I could try telling, but I don't know if I want to or not. Kinda feeling toward something else. I feel like doing something Heroes inspiring. *L* Ironically, one of the pieces I'm the most proud of, a short story collection, you'd swear it was Heroes inspiring, though I wrote it three years ago. Characters with extraordinary talents living ordinary lives otherwise and a serial killer who is connected to each of them? Um, yeah. *L*

I've always wanted to try NaNo, but I know I can't commit to the time and wouldn't come close.

Though the universe had flattened me with work lately, I am still planning on making my first attempt this year. *crosses fingers*
