Fictional Accounts of Politicians

I don't talk about politics, and I'm not even a fan of the West Wing, but this account of a meeting between Barack Obama and former President Jed Bartlet, as written by Aaron Sorkin, and appearing in Maureen Dowd's column, is totally made of win.
When I saw
pocky_slash's post about this (thanks, btw! *S*), I totally thought of you,
thepandorarose. But being how it is in The New York Times, I'm betting you've already seen it. But no worries: I guess the online version is different? I'm curious if this is complete or not.
I really got a giggle when Bartlet mentioned The Dixie Chicks. That just brings it all around. :D

Date: 2008-09-21 10:54 am (UTC)Now, what's this business about not being a Wing fan? Did you just not see enough of it or - perish the thought! - saw a good chunk of it and actually decide it wasn't your thing? :o
You know ilu anywayz, but I like to know this stuff about my friends, lol.no subject
Date: 2008-09-21 01:43 pm (UTC)I even made a West Wing lol post for her with visual youtube clips. She's seen some clips, I think. Perhaps we have to band together and make her watch it. lol.
It was the first show I really shipped anyone. Who do you ship?

I tend to go for the obvious as far as shipping go, so of course Josh and Donna were my OTP, but I also entertained the thought of CJ/Toby (but ended up loving CJ/Danny! lol) and Sam/Ainsley. You?

Date: 2008-09-22 12:19 am (UTC)I'm a huge Danny/CJ girl. Sam and Ainsley we're cute, couldn't choice, loved him with Leo's daughter just as much.
I got big into fandom with Danny and CJ and it was what made me a habitual fan fic writer.
I started it as a exercise to see if I could copy Sorkin's rhythm and so on.... and well got out of hand. lol.
I follow the West Wing actors in the theatre, I've gotten to see Alison, Brad and Richard. And I met Brad! And Sorkin talked to me on facebook and it made my year! lol.
His dialogue is addictive like crack.
Why I love TV...
Date: 2008-09-21 01:40 pm (UTC)BARTLET He’s promised to eradicate evil and that was always on my “to do” list.
BARTLET I won’t lie to you, being fictional was a big advantage.
BARTLET I’ve been married to a white woman for 40 years and I still don’t know what she wants from me.
BARTLET Because the idea of American exceptionalism doesn’t extend to Americans being exceptional. If you excelled academically and are able to casually use 690 SAT words then you might as well have the press shoot video of you giving the finger to the Statue of Liberty while the Dixie Chicks sing the University of the Taliban fight song. The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it.
You don't get this, but as a WW fan, he is SOOO making fun of himself here:
BARTLET Have you tried doing a two-hour special or a really good Christmas show?
There are times when condescension is called for!
Oh, classic:
...and you’re in a statistical tie with a war hero and a Cinemax heroine.
And the West Wing fans go wild!!!
BARTLET “Break’s over.”
OH YEAH!!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! You made my day!!!
You gonna watch it now?
